Regulation of doctors' establishment: suspense surrounding a flammable law against medical deserts
Will the flammable measure, for the first time, pass the threshold of a vote on The National Assembly? The idea of regulating the establishment of private doctors, at a time when medical deserts are worsening, has gained supporters in the public debate, starting with the approximately 250 deputies who have signed the bill "aimed at combating medical deserts," sponsored by the Socialist deputy for Mayenne, Guillaume Garot. The examination of the text is due to resume on Tuesday, May 6, in a public session.
Its Article 1, providing for a constraint on the installation of doctors (arrival conditional on departure, in over-supplied areas), was already adopted, on April 2, by 155 votes to 85, despite the government's unfavorable opinion. A thunderclap for the profession. Because the regulation has its opponents, first and foremost doctors, up in arms, convinced of the ineffectiveness of such a measure in a context of shortage. They have raised their voices, some of them joining an unlimited strike launched by students, interns, and young doctors, since April 28, supported by the unions of independent practitioners, without it being possible to measure its scale. A demonstration on April 29 brought together several thousand professionals in several cities in France.
