Smoking will now be banned on beaches, in parks, and around schools starting Sunday, according to the decree published in the Official Journal this Saturday. The July 1st date had been announced by Health Minister Catherine Vautrin on May 29.

Smoking on beaches, in parks and around schools will be banned from Sunday , two days before Tuesday, July 1st, a date that had been previously announced by Health Minister Catherine Vautrin on May 29th to Ouest-France .

The decree relating to smoke-free areas and the fight against the sale of tobacco and vaping products to minors was in fact published this Saturday in the Official Journal , with the clarification that the "text comes into force the day after its publication", i.e. Sunday, June 29.

"The decree extends the smoking ban to bus shelters, public parks and gardens, beaches, areas around libraries, sports venues and primary and secondary schools, as well as places where minors are accommodated and accommodated," the purpose of the decree reads.

Smokers frowned upon in society

This ban, aimed primarily at protecting children from passive smoking, does not apply to cafe and restaurant terraces and does not mention electronic cigarettes, AFP points out.
