Your child is regressing: should you be worried?

Your child is regressing: should you be worried?

By destinationsante.com

A child's development is never linear. Major achievements are often followed by phases of regression. This is hardly surprising.

Even at 3 or 4 years old, a child can already feel nostalgic for the time when they ate tenderly curled up against their mom or dad. Some even say it outright: "Act as if I were still a baby." As long as these episodes remain occasional, as long as the child is aware of their exceptional nature, they are even beneficial: they allow them to replenish their resources and gain security, which will then lead to even greater independence.

However, if this happens too often, you need to ask yourself some questions. Perhaps he's been jealous since his little brother was born? Perhaps he's been shaken by a recent move? Perhaps he's having trouble managing all the new constraints of being a kindergartener? To help him get through this, redouble your encouragement and hugs. And show him that being a big boy has its advantages: you can go see a cartoon at the cinema, you can sometimes skip a nap to go to a birthday party... Of course, if these regressions become permanent, talk about them with his pediatrician at your next visit.
