Music. "It's the concert game!": When fans match their outfits to the artist

Beyoncé kicks off her three-concert series at the Stade de France this Thursday evening, promising an exceptional show. For the occasion, many fans will be adapting their outfits to the world of Queen B—a habit that audiences are increasingly adopting.

It's the musical event of the week. For her visit to France, Beyoncé will perform three concerts in Paris this Thursday, June 19, Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, at the Stade de France. Tickets for Queen B's Cowboy Carter Tour were snapped up in just a few minutes . Two years after her last visit to the capital, the American star promises a gigantic show and iconic outfits... that fans will reciprocate. The thousands of expected spectators intend to honor her by wearing their finest outfits, matching her music. "I think it contributes to the atmosphere to respect a dress code. It's the game of the concert!" proclaims Bérénice, from Lyon.

Pay tribute to the artist

The phenomenon isn't new. Festivals have become a place for sartorial expression. Starting with Coachella in California, where we see increasingly original looks (and sometimes more suited to Fashion Week than a concert) parade. At concerts, fans, too, are keen to work on their outfits, more to pay homage to the artist, show them their attachment, and give a nod to their music.

This desire to display one's style according to the artist was particularly highlighted during the visit of the other big international star in France: Taylor Swift . Her community of fans, the "Swifties", went out of their way and showed a limitless level of involvement and imagination during the singer's concerts in Paris and Lyon last year. The idea was to draw inspiration from the artist's outfits, a song or the different album covers and color codes. "I managed to get tickets for Taylor Swift's concert in Lyon last year, and of course, we came with an outfit that corresponded to a period of the singer's career," confirms Élodie from the Var. Sequined outfit, red dress or blue and powder pink ensemble, each element is not chosen at random.

“I love choosing my outfit and following the artists’ dress code for concerts. The first time I did it was for Taylor Swift where I wore a pink dress, a “Miss Americana” sash and a crown in connection with her song Miss Americana from the album Lover . And since then, at every concert I go to, I do it. Sometimes, it’s more subtle like for Ed Sheeran where I’ll wear pink pants the same color as his new album. And I’m already thinking about my outfit for Katy Perry in October!” says Chloé from Normandy.

Some are more discreet, but don't lose their attention to detail, like Dominique, from Colmar, a metal fan since he was 13: "I go to concerts or festivals wearing black or a t-shirt with the band's name on it... Not forgetting black nail polish," he says. A way of paying homage to the artist that is also a sense of belonging to a group or community that shares the same passion.

Taylor Swift and Beyoncé aren't the only ones with such dedicated fans: recently, at concerts by Billie Eilish , Dua Lipa, and Sabrina Carpenter, spectators have gone out of their way to honor the singers through their clothing styles. Some even go so far as to sew their own outfits and stick on the rhinestones one by one, while others organize themselves into groups to coordinate.

For Beyoncé, who, in her latest album, Cowboy Carter, blended country influences into her usual style, the looks of fans who play along are likely to be heavily inspired by cowboy hats and cowboy boots. At least, that's what we've already seen at Queen B's previous performances!
