Despite experience, a poorly prepared hike can turn into a nightmare. Hikers, both novice and seasoned, recount hikes that turned disastrous. Find our tips for setting off well prepared . Today, Jonas, a 35-year-old Parisian restaurateur, trusted his friend from Réunion Island for a hike. Perhaps too much.

“In January 2024, I flew with my friend Jérôme (1), in his fifties, to Réunion, where he's from. We're close: he introduced me to hiking, and when he wanted to get into the coffee business, I hired him to teach him the trade. He wanted to become my partner, but I didn't. For several months, we didn't speak. We ended up getting back in touch and moving on. We flew a few months after the reunion. We had planned a long, week-long trip across the island. He had asked me to prepare myself physically. But with work, I couldn't. We'll do another one.

"All week, he doesn't offer me anything, he hardly talks. I have the feeling that something is wrong. By insisting, we end up leaving for two days."
