There's more factors than you may think that are worth considering when purchasing a smart bird feeder. These are the top three most important in our book.

Camera: You got to have a nice camera. One that can take bird pics and record video in HD, 4k is even better. Clarity of image, both day and night, is important. As are the capabilities to record and slow down videos and identify birds based on clear snapshots.

Weather Resistance: You need a smart bird feeder that can weather a random storm when you're not home. That means rain, wind, and dust resistance. IP ratings are a great shorthand for water and dust resistance, and if you can find an IP rating on your bird feeder, that's a start. If you can find one rated IP66 or better, you are in good hands.

App Quality: A bad app can ruin the whole "smart" experience. Whether it be through clunky navigation, unreliable AI, or a premium subscription that simply costs too much, it's easy to mess up an app. If the app isn't working the way its intended to, you may as well just get a regular ole bird feeder and call it a day.
