"The task is great, and so is my determination": Thierry Trijoulet, elected mayor of Mérignac, succeeds Alain Anziani

This Monday, June 2, a political page turns in Mérignac. Following the resignation of Alain Anziani for health reasons, and following an extraordinary municipal council meeting, Thierry Trijoulet was elected head of the city. David Charbit is first deputy mayor.
I n general, the mood was one of restraint, and it was a contained but sincere emotion that guided part of the municipal council of Mérignac, this Monday evening, June 2. Alain Anziani, mayor of Mérignac who resigned for health reasons , was unanimously praised for his ten years in office, during which his "humanism" and his sense of "the general interest" commanded respect, beyond political divisions. Driven by the interest of witnessing this historic moment, the public came in large numbers. The room, full, missed nothing of this tribute.
As per the procedure, the city's elected officials were asked to elect a new mayor. Unsurprisingly, Thierry Trijoulet, 66, a former first deputy mayor, came out on top . He received 41 votes, compared to eight votes for the opposition councilor from the right-wing party, Thierry Millet, who ran against all odds. Even though he had little chance of being elected, the opposition leader put himself forward to run for mayor. In other words, he is positioning himself for the next election.

For the rest, there was no palace revolution, but some minor changes: David Charbit was appointed first deputy, delegate for finance and public procurement; municipal councilor Jean-Charles Astier became deputy for urban planning, and Fatou Diop joined the municipal council. The elected members will now support Thierry Trijoulet, who had been designated by Alain Anziani as his successor when he announced his resignation. Originally from Arlac, he is a loyal supporter, close to the former senator for years. Elected municipal councilor delegated to sports in 2008 under Michel Sainte-Marie, he became Alain Anziani's first deputy in 2014 and then in 2020, in charge of urban planning and economic development.
ChallengesIn his statement, the new mayor of Mérignac naturally paid tribute to Alain Anziani, to the bonds he forged with his "friend, companion, who has done so much for our beautiful city. It is with great humility and emotion that I approach this deadline."
Likewise, he defended the municipality's actions that must be carried out until the next municipal elections: "There is a mandate to complete, the course of which is well known, with a clearly displayed record. But also perspectives to affirm, which will come in due time. I will register at the end of this mandate in the continuity of a collective project carried by our municipal majority and outlined by Alain Anziani, while adapting to the new challenges, which will not be lacking."
"Mérignac must remain an open, welcoming city, with local public services, a city of generous and caring solidarity for all generations, but also a city of economic and commercial dynamism, constantly facing difficulties," continued the chief magistrate before concluding: "The task is great, my determination is just as great." Like a promise to the people of Mérignac.
