2026 Municipal Elections in Nice: Mélenchon's France Insoumise Chooses a Duo to Lead the Campaign

2026 Municipal Elections in Nice: Mélenchon's France Insoumise Chooses a Duo to Lead the Campaign

These are two familiar faces in the Nice political landscape. "Reds" far from being blues. They've already had some serious run-ins on the electoral scene, such as with the former head of the Republicans, UDR MP Éric Ciotti, during the 2022 and 2024 legislative elections, in the 1st constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes...

Anne-Laure Chaintron and Olivier Salerno have been appointed leaders of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party, for the 2026 municipal elections in Nice, with the mission of leading the LFI collective.

Sweep away "extreme right" and "far right"

Their goal: to sweep away "the extreme right of Christian Estrosi" and the "far right" of likely candidate Éric Ciotti, an ally of the National Rally. But if they want to have any hope of achieving this, they will first have to successfully unite with the rest of the left-wing ecologists. This unity failed in the last municipal elections in 2020.

"Our priority mission will be to immediately engage in dialogue with progressive forces to study the possibility of defending, together, a disruptive program that meets the challenges facing the city," say Anne-Laure Chaintron and Olivier Salerno.

Housing, transport, urban segregation and discrimination

A municipal project that would carry "a particularly ambitious housing policy. For example, people who are entitled to social housing must be able to benefit from it," proposes the duo. They also want to "put an end to the constant improvisation in the face of climate change and make Nice a resilient city before experiencing a catastrophe similar to that of Valencia." Also on the LFI menu: free transport, the fight against urban segregation and everyday discrimination.

They insist: "It is essential to build a political alternative that serves the general interest." And they castigate a Christian Estrosi who "decides everything, all alone, wasting public money."

Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux and Patrick Allemand also designated on the left

On the same side of the political spectrum, the Ecologists have chosen their leader: the municipal and metropolitan elected official, Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux .

For the Socialist Party, it will be Patrick Allemand , the former municipal councilor and former first vice-president of the region. The PCF 06 has not yet made a decision.

Not forgetting the unbeatable candidate for everything, everywhere: Jean-Marc Governatori, who will lead the list of his own party, L'Écologie au centre, and who is not ready to make friends with LFI.
