2026 Municipal Elections: Augustin Pesche appointed leader of the PCF in Lyon

2026 Municipal Elections: Augustin Pesche appointed leader of the PCF in Lyon

Augustin Pesche, deputy mayor for sport at the 8th arrondissement, has been appointed leader of the French Communist Party (PCF) for the 2026 municipal elections in Lyon.

Following an internal consultation, the French Communist Party (PCF) in Lyon has designated Augustin Pesche as its leader for the 2026 municipal elections. This decision was made by 500 Lyon activists.

Augustin Pesche, 38, works in the energy sector, is secretary of the Lyon branch of the French Communist Party (PCF), and is currently deputy mayor of the 8th arrondissement, responsible for sports and youth. He has also chaired the Lyon Sports Office since 2021.

In a statement, the new leader stressed the communists' desire to place " response to human needs " at the heart of their municipal commitment, calling for the strengthening of public services, associations and popular education structures.

The PCF Lyonnais also invites the forces of the current municipal majority, as well as the components of the New Popular Front (NFP), to build a union " in their diversity " around a common project.

Residents' suggestions collected through the "Lyon, Capital of Happiness" participatory approach will inform the program currently being developed. Between now and the Fête de l'Humanité at the start of the school year, Augustin Pesche will continue consultations with political, union, and community stakeholders to refine this project.
