2027 Presidential Election: Olivier Faure Mentions the "Possibility" of a Primary to Designate a "Joint Candidate of the Left and the Greens"

The head of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, assured on Saturday June 7 that "there will be a joint candidate from the left and the ecologists" for the 2027 presidential election , stating that his designation by a primary was "one of the possibilities", in an interview with La Tribune on Sunday .

While he had already advocated a joint candidacy ranging from the leader of Place publique Raphaël Glucksmann to the former LFI deputy François Ruffin , Olivier Faure notes that the latter "has put forward the idea of ​​a primary": "It is one of the possibilities", he considered.

"We must achieve a common designation process," adds the Seine-et-Marne MP, according to whom "this must first be achieved through a common programmatic platform."

Regarding Raphaël Glucksmann, who has indicated that he does not wish to participate in a primary, Olivier Faure believes that "no one can say 'I have decided to move forward without seeking to bring together the left and the ecologists'."

"The issue is not about taking personal risks, it's about making this country and the millions of French people directly threatened by the arrival of the extreme right in power take risks," he observes.

Olivier Faure was re-elected as head of the Socialist Party by a hair's breadth on Friday, receiving 50.9% of the votes cast by voters.

Asked about the willingness of his opponent, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol (49.1%), to present a social democratic candidacy in the 2027 presidential election, the reappointed First Secretary believes that "this question has been settled" and is "now behind us: that's what congresses are for."

"No one can take responsibility for ending up with four or five left-wing candidates on the starting line," he warns.
