The mayor of Lyon hopes to reach 300 municipal police officers by the summer.

" We have reversed the trend ," assured Lyon's Green mayor, Grégory Doucet, this Thursday during the city council meeting. While the number of municipal police officers in the city is struggling to take off, with approximately 290 positions filled out of 365 open, and despite several staff upgrades, the mayor believes he can surpass the 300-police officer mark.

" There are 294 agents in post and current recruitment gives us hope of reaching the 300 agent mark this summer ," he indicated at the start of the municipal council meeting.

As a reminder, the municipality had indeed increased the salaries of all its officers by €100 gross per month, which was in addition to the increase in the index point. However, municipal police officers were not initially affected, as their status within the civil service prevented them from receiving this increase.

The mayor had thus pushed the State to have the police officers' compensation system re-evaluated, they were thus able to receive the revaluation of €100 gross which was added to an initial increase in 2022 for a total amount of €550,000.
