A "Oradour-sur-Glane" sign placed in front of her home: in Toulon, was left-wing candidate Magali Brunel targeted?

The plaque on Rue Oradour-sur-Glane, located in the Palasse district in the east of Toulon, was removed "and thrown in front of the home of Magali Brunel, head of the left-wing list" for the 2026 municipal elections.
"The sign had been there for a week. It wasn't blocking traffic. So I thought I'd call the highway department later to move it," says Magali Brunel, who lives a few dozen meters from the location of the torn-down post. " Then it was on my way back from the demonstration in Saint-Raphaël (against a stele dedicated to the victims of "communist totalitarianism," Ed.) that I made the connection and saw that it was on Rue Oradour-sur-Glane."
"Not a coincidence"For the leader of Toulon en commun , "this can't be a coincidence, all these elements match; the pole didn't fall by accident, it was moved several meters. " Does she feel threatened? "I'm not saying that I'm personally targeted, I don't want to be alarmist, I don't feel threatened... but I'm vigilant."
André de Ubeda, municipal councillor (PCF) in Toulon, makes "the link" between this act and the theft of a commemorative plaque in the martyr cemetery of Oradour-sur-Glane this Monday, or more recently, the removal of the "Liberation route Europe" sign on the Delayen esplanade in Saint-Raphaël, in homage to the Resistance and on which appears the name of the communist Roger Léon Landini (read Var-matin of 26/8).
The opposition socialist councillor claims to have contacted Josée Massi, the mayor of Toulon, on Friday morning: "She was outraged and reacted immediately."
The post bearing the street name was replaced during the day. No complaints were filed.
