Bayrou Podcast: Will you be spending a little more this summer?

It was our job, it was our duty: we turned on YouTube on Tuesday, August 5th, around 5 p.m., to listen to François Bayrou talk to us about budgetary policy. The occupant of Matignon posted the first video in a series intended to convince us of the seriousness of the country's ills, and the quality of the remedies he proposes. Here's what we thought of it.
Timing: 1/10 . It is undoubtedly justified to seek to reduce the debt, but is it justified to want to talk to us about it on August 5? "All those in charge are going on a well-deserved vacation, which I will not do," argued the Prime Minister, according to whom "these days are absolutely crucial." Fine, but the audience figures don't lie: an hour after it was posted online, the video had only been viewed 3,000 times. We must at least give it credit for its brevity: 8 minutes 36 seconds, a realistic assessment of the attention span of the average August resident.
Decor: 3/10 . Daytime interior, black tie, libraries in the background: a sobriety undoubtedly suited to the subject, but which disappointed us. If we were going to play counter-programming, we had to go all out. We imagine a sequence shot on a beach in the Var, with Bayrou strolling among the chichis vendors and the racket games, shouting from afar to the bathers: "Every second, France's debt increases by 5,000 euros!"
