BFMTV POLL: Édouard Philippe preferred to Bruno Retailleau for 2027 in the event of an alliance between the right and the center

Who will win in 2027? Having emerged victorious in the Republican presidential election with a wide margin over his rival Laurent Wauquiez, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau can now dream of running for president... of the Republic.
But the Beauvau resident is not the favorite to embody a potential alliance between the right and the center for 2027. At least, that's what we learn from the new "Opinion en direct" survey conducted by the Elabe institute and revealed to you by BFMTV this Wednesday, May 21.
Among right-wing and centrist supporters, the mayor of Le Havre, Édouard Philippe (cited by 55% of respondents, including 39% in first place), is ahead of Bruno Retailleau (46%, including 32% in first place). The former Prime Minister also has the presidential camp's preference (75% of mentions), while the current Minister of the Interior is ahead among LR supporters (64% of mentions).
It should be noted that among RN supporters, Bruno Retailleau (43%) is well ahead of Édouard Philippe (17%). Among the French population as a whole, the leader of Horizons (28%) and the new LR president (26%) are neck and neck.
If the Republicans choose to present a candidacy without an alliance with other parties, Bruno Retailleau is considered by those questioned to be the best candidate to represent the right in 2027 (80% of mentions among LR supporters, including 68% in 1st place).
It is important to note that, according to this survey, opinion is divided on the Republicans' strategy regarding a possible alliance for the next presidential election. While 21% of respondents want the party to present a candidate and not form alliances, 17% want one with the National Rally and Éric Ciotti's party, while 16% believe that LR should form an alliance with the presidential camp (Renaissance, Modem, Horizons).
Among LR supporters, 40% want the party to present a candidate without forming an alliance, while 26% opt for an alliance with the presidential camp and 21% with the RN. Fifty-five percent of supporters of parties in the presidential camp want the LR to form an alliance with them, while 56% of RN supporters want them to form an alliance with their party.
Sample of 1,000 people representative of residents of metropolitan France aged 18 and over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured using the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age, and occupation of the interviewee after stratification by region and urban area category.
