In this small but strange galaxy of French social democrats, there's a planet that has been dreaming of becoming the new sun since Olivier Faure's reappointment as head of the Socialist Party. Launched in March 2023 by Bernard Cazeneuve, La Convention sees itself as a force of attraction for other microparties, dreaming of filling a space left vacant by Emmanuel Macron's rightward shift. Last week, the former Prime Minister announced that he now has François Rebsamen's Progressive Federation in his orbit.

It's an acceleration of particles that has been shaking this social democratic galaxy for several weeks.
