Emmanuel Macron says he will visit Ukraine "in due course"

In Nancy, alongside Polish President Donald Tusk, Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday, May 9, that he would travel to Ukraine "in due course," while a summit of European leaders will be held there this Saturday.

France will "participate" in this meeting, Emmanuel Macron confirmed, leaving doubts about his trip to Ukraine. "In due course, I will go there. For many understandable reasons, we rarely talk about it beforehand," he declared.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a summit of European leaders in Ukraine this Saturday . The meeting will bring together the "coalition of the willing," which includes mostly European countries and seeks to provide military support to Kyiv and establish a framework for lasting peace in Ukraine.

This European summit in Ukraine comes a day after Donald Trump called on Thursday for "an unconditional 30-day ceasefire" in Ukraine, which should lead to "lasting peace." This statement was welcomed by Emmanuel Macron , who wishes to "work towards this goal without delay, without pretense, or delaying tactics."

Donald Tusk and the French president signed a treaty of friendship and enhanced cooperation this Friday, with Emmanuel Macron describing "Franco-Polish friendship" as an "alliance of the heart." A similar agreement has already been signed by France with Germany, Italy, and Spain.
