On Thursday, June 12, Bruno Retailleau announced the dissolution of the Young Guard, an anti-fascist movement, and of Lyon Populaire, a far-right group. The decree dissolving the Urgence Palestine group, which he had announced at the same time as those of the Young Guard and Lyon Populaire, was not presented.

The Council of Ministers announced on Thursday, June 12, the dissolution of the Young Guard, an anti-fascist movement, and that of Lyon Populaire, a far-right group, Bruno Retailleau announced. In a message posted on X, the Minister of the Interior promised to "let nothing go."

On the other hand, the decree dissolving the Urgence Palestine group , which he had announced at the same time as those of the Jeune Garde and Lyon populaire, was not presented to the Council of Ministers on Thursday, the file relating to its dissolution being still under examination, explained Bruno Retailleau's entourage.

In mid-May, the minister confirmed in a press release his intention to dissolve the three groups by decree, after having launched contradictory procedures against them on April 29. He accuses these three "de facto groups of provoking violent acts against people, provocations that often have consequences."

Regarding Lyon Populaire, he accuses it of "advocating collaboration with Nazism and provoking hatred, violence and discrimination against foreigners." As for Urgence Palestine, he accuses it of "advocating a terrorist organization like Hamas, calling for an intifada on national territory and provoking hatred, violence or discrimination against Jews."

As soon as the dissolution of Urgence Palestine and the Young Guard was announced, protest rallies were organized in several cities, including Paris. The Young Guard was created in 2018 by Raphaël Arnault, a LFI MP since 2024, who describes himself as a "materialist Marxist."

Amnesty International France , through its president Anne Savinel-Barras, had argued that dissolving Urgence Palestine "in the midst of a genocide in the Gaza Strip would be a very serious act." Bruno Retailleau had responded that the government "could not allow violence to become commonplace and become just another form of expression."

"Faced with the savagery of society, the dramatic consequences of which we see every day," he continued, "the State cannot tolerate such groups continuing to exalt hatred and violence with impunity, whatever their political or ideological orientation."
