Haute-Loire. Flood of October 17, 2024: Two houses will be razed in Coubon

The first item on the agenda of the municipal council meeting held last week concerned the acquisition by the municipality of two houses as part of the implementation of the Barnier Fund, following the significant damage caused by the flood of October 17, 2024.
Now too close to the banks of the Loire River, four houses are exposed to serious and imminent danger in the event of a hydrological event, endangering the lives of residents , according to the report by Cerema, a public body under the Ministry of Regional Planning.
Initially, the acquisition of two houses was submitted for approval by elected officials, as the other owners refused any amicable purchase at the Domaines price, which the municipality would align with. It should be noted that, within the framework of the Barnier Fund, the town hall acts as an intermediary.
The houses will therefore be acquired by the latter, which will have to advance their price, that is, 229,360 euros for one, 331,330 euros for the other. The total amount should be around 560,000 euros. Notary fees, asbestos and lead assessments, demolition, and site safety will also be added.
"We should be happy to have a comfortable cash flow, even if we could have done without these unforeseen events," observes Mayor Christelle Valantin.
