In Lesotho, an activist arrested after criticizing the country's prime minister

Lesotho activist Tsolo Thakeli was arrested after posting a widely shared video in which he denounced Prime Minister Sam Matekane's inaction in the face of rampant unemployment. This criticism resonates strongly with the country's youth.
“It only took a single video denouncing Lesotho's unemployment rate for Tsolo Thakeli to become Prime Minister Sam Matekane's enemy,” notes The Guardian . The fight against unemployment is one of the activist's key issues. In 2016, before Matekane came to power in 2022, he organized a demonstration outside Parliament to denounce the problem.
In the video, which has sparked anger among the authorities, he criticizes the lack of measures to achieve the job creation targets announced by the Prime Minister and asks why there has been no action in the three years since Matekane's election. Indeed, the latter had recently announced the creation of 70,000 jobs in just three weeks.
