LIVE. 2026 Budget: François Bayrou presents his savings plan. What to expect?

After weeks of work, the Prime Minister is due to present his budget plan this Tuesday to reduce the public deficit to 4.6% in 2026.
By Le ParisienWhile the government is seeking 40 billion euros in savings, "I don't understand why it refuses on principle to go and get the money where it is, namely in the pockets of shareholders, rentiers and the richest who have never been so rich," the general secretary of the CGT (Confederation of Labour) criticized on France 2.
Sophie Binet also calls for "transparency" and an "evaluation" of public aid paid to businesses. "We've never given so much money to our businesses, (...) public aid must be made conditional on companies that are exemplary from a social and environmental perspective," believes the CGT general secretary.
While the government is widely considering a blank year for the 2026 budget (which involves freezing public spending at its 2025 level), the CGT general secretary estimated on France 2 that it would be "in reality a black year for workers and public services" since it would "impoverish the French."
🗣️ "This blank year is actually a black year for workers and for public services. We would lose purchasing power."

With a blank year, "wages, social benefits, and pensions would not keep up with inflation, so it would impoverish everyone," explained Sophie Binet.
As for the idea of eliminating public holidays, the CGT secretary said, "that means working more for less," she said.
- RSA, APL, activity bonus, unemployment benefits, pensions… All social benefits may not be increased to the level of inflation. Potential savings: 5 billion euros
- Freezing the income tax scale. Potential revenue: 1 billion euros
- Elimination of the 10% tax reduction on retirement pensions. Potential revenue: €5 billion
- Increase in the CSG (General Social Contribution) for retirees. Potential revenue: 1.3 billion euros
