Louis Sarkozy's candidacy for the Menton municipal elections is taking shape

The suspense in Menton is nearing its end. Louis Sarkozy appears to be well and truly engaged in his municipal election campaign, a secret revelation made by the filing with the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture of an "association to finance the electoral campaign of the list led by Louis Sarkozy for the March 2026 municipal elections in Menton."

This statement, dated August 11th and spotted by Le Parisien in the Official Journal of August 19th, indirectly formalizes his candidacy. According to information from our colleagues, Louis Sarkozy intends to launch his campaign in the first days of September.

Essayist and son of President Nicolas Sarkozy, the 28-year-old had never declared himself a candidate before, but his recent registration on the electoral roll in Menton had raised questions about his political intentions. "Winning an election is very complicated," he declared last May on BFMTV .

It remains to be seen under which banner Louis Sarkozy will launch this new political challenge. In July, he mentioned having "excellent relations with the Republicans party." "There are conversations between them and me about the possibility of a political future in Menton," he added.

The city is currently an LR stronghold, under the leadership of Yves Juhel since 2021. However, the current mayor is experiencing turbulence: he is the target of several ongoing legal cases, the most important being that of the ports of Menton where the mayor is accused of having embezzled public funds.

The current municipal council is also deeply fractured, after nine elected members of the majority left Yves Juhel in June to create a separate group. For his part, Louis Sarkozy has already broken away from the local councillor in the past.

"The city is plagued by 1,000 cases and 1,000 rivalries that are preventing us from moving forward," he declared at the beginning of the summer. "This city needs renewal."

And he added: "I don't identify with any declared candidate. I'm not for Juhel, nor for anyone else. I'm free in everything. I must be detached from any clan."
