Paris municipal elections: how Macron's government is trying to oust Rachida Dati

Rachida Dati, minister and mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, is preparing to run for mayor of the capital to succeed Anne Hidalgo. While she is counting on the support of Macron supporters, the situation is proving more delicate. At a local Renaissance meeting in early April, tensions emerged regarding her candidacy. Several elected officials and activists expressed reluctance about her rapprochement with LR, particularly after her rejoining the party and her support for Laurent Wauquiez. Legal cases, including an indictment for passive corruption, add uncertainty to her support within the presidential party. Some even fear defections to candidates like Pierre-Yves Bournazel. Macronist support is therefore not guaranteed, and the National Investiture Commission will soon decide on the matter.
