Pension Conclave: Reform on Hold?

More than three months after its tense opening, the pensions conference is entering its final stages and is expected to conclude on June 17. The National Assembly also voted on Thursday, June 5, a bill calling on the government to repeal the pension reform.
In Mont-de-Marsan (Landes), Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), there were many demonstrators against the pension reform, Thursday, June 5. They want the legal retirement age of 64 to disappear. Among its detractors is the CFDT (French Confederation of Labour). In the midst of negotiations between social partners, the organization continues to demand that this retirement age be lowered. The union proposes lowering the legal retirement age to at least 63 for highly demanding jobs and women with fragmented careers.
For its part, employers are divided. The Medef (French employers' association) cannot reverse the 64-year retirement age, but others could consider it. Thus, the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CPME) would temporarily accept a legal retirement age of 63, on the condition that this age be raised if French life expectancy increases. The goal is to balance the pension system, which is in deficit.
