Prime Minister François Bayrou's popularity rating continues to decline, according to a poll

François Bayrou's popularity rating continues to fall for the third consecutive month, the Ifop political and territorial barometer for Ouest-France indicated on Friday, May 10.

According to this poll carried out from May 7 to 9, 2025, the Prime Minister, who is notably mired in the affair of violence within the Bétharram establishment , has lost 12 points in three months, with only 27% of French people approving his actions.

Emmanuel Macron's popularity remains stable at a low level, with 28% of French people trusting him. "This is the first time in the history of our barometer, founded in 2003, that a prime minister is less popular than the president of the Republic," Frédéric Dabi, director general of Ifop's opinion poll, told Ouest-France .

Not close enough to daily concerns

François Bayrou's strong point is his "openness to dialogue," praised by 40% of French people. But only 23% of them consider the head of government to be close to everyday concerns.

46% of those surveyed trust Emmanuel Macron to defend France's interests abroad , an increase of four points compared to last month.

81% of French people consider the President of the Republic to be removed from daily concerns.
