Referendum, end of life, Ukraine, security... what topics should Emmanuel Macron address tonight on TF1?

Ukraine, social issues, pensions, public finances... Emmanuel Macron has a meeting with the French people in a major program this Tuesday evening on TF1 . The head of state will answer questions from presenter Gilles Bouleau, civil society figures, and French people for two and a half hours, starting at 8:10 p.m., in "Emmanuel Macron - The Challenges of France."
After his time in the wilderness following the dissolution of the National Assembly, the president continues his quest to win back public opinion. He intends to demonstrate that he has regained control and is once again a force to be reckoned with in the domestic political arena, at a time when his Prime Minister, François Bayrou, appears increasingly eclipsed.
Since Donald Trump's return to the White House, Emmanuel Macron has once again positioned himself as the leader of the Europeans, particularly on Ukraine, where he visited on Saturday alongside the German, British, and Polish leaders. He hopes to capitalize on these political gains at home, after reaching record levels of unpopularity last fall in the wake of the failed dissolution of the EU.
In this broadcast, he could play the referendum card , a temptation often expressed since 2017 but never followed through. He had already indicated in his New Year's wishes for 2025 that the French would be led to "decide" on decisive issues . A temptation all the greater since the government no longer has a majority in the Assembly.
Emmanuel Macron is reportedly considering several simultaneous questions on a variety of topics to defuse the use of this tool that no president has dared to use since 2005 and the victory of the "no" vote on the European Constitution. Children's screen time, end of life , territorial reform, immigration ... Speculation is rife on possible topics and their feasibility, while the exercise remains highly regulated.
According to Article 11 of the Constitution, voters must vote for or against a bill relating to "the organization of public powers," "reforms relating to economic, social or environmental policy," or "tend[ing] to authorize the ratification of a treaty."
The French, for their part, are overwhelmingly in favour (83%) of organising a referendum and place the economy , pensions and immigration at the top of the list of subjects on which they would like to be questioned, according to an Elabe poll for BFMTV published on Sunday.
Three days after his trip to Kiev , the head of state will also be eagerly awaited on Ukraine, while events seem to be accelerating with a possible summit meeting on Thursday in Istanbul, in the presence of Donald Trump.
Three years after his re-election, he will also defend his record and outline "prospects because there are two years left in his mandate," his entourage asserts.
The president will be surrounded by 100 m2 of screens on which the general secretary of the CGT Sophie Binet will speak on pension reform, the YouTuber Tibo Inshape on sport at school, the journalist Charles Biétry , who suffers from Charcot's disease, on the end of life, and Cécile Duflot, director of the NGO fighting against inequality Oxfam, on a possible inheritance tax.
A weightlifter will question her about wearing the veil, TF1 further states on its website. As will journalist Salomé Saqué about the environment and Béziers mayor Robert Ménard about security.
