Rhône. Six Lyon news stories you shouldn't miss this week

Every Sunday, Le Progrès reviews the six major news stories of the week in Lyon. This week, the newspaper focuses on the redevelopment work on Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, the city of Caluire's desire to attract young doctors, graffiti on the walls of the Croix-Rousse, the arrival of Action, which is replacing Netto Berthelot, investments in culture, and finally, the patience of Lyon's motorists, which is being put to the test.
It was expected. The redevelopment of Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, planned to extend over a length of 680 meters, will affect the central portion between Rue de la Tourette and Rue des Pierres Plantées. Development work will begin in 2027, with completion expected in 2029.

For the Lyon Metropolitan Area, this represents an investment of €11 million including tax for the development of public spaces, including €3.6 million including tax for network works.
The future work was presented this Friday, May 23, in the council room of the town hall of the 4th arrondissement, in the presence of Grégory Doucet, mayor of Lyon, Yasmine Bouagga, mayor of the 1st , and Rémi Zinck, mayor of the 4th .

The town of Caluire wants to attract young doctors
The City of Caluire has published a booklet entitled "Healthcare Professionals - I'm Moving to Caluire-et-Cuire." Designed by the town hall and developed with local stakeholders, this document is intended for general practitioners.
"We will send this document as widely as possible to interns, student associations, medical replacement companies, the CPTS network, and the internet link will be available on the town hall website. The idea is to showcase all the town's assets and encourage new practitioners to set up practice here," emphasizes Évelyne Goyer, deputy mayor in charge of health.
The municipality has also committed to opening a medical center in each neighborhood.
Three days after the Pentes carnival , which saw nearly 650 people march through the area, local professionals noticed the appearance of anti-fascist graffiti on the walls and windows of businesses.
Despite a ban from the prefecture, the event is being organized by far-left groups. A tag reading "Fire to the prisons" is written on one of the walls of this bakery in Croix-Rousse. "It's driving me crazy," she sighs, hands on her hips. She glances around: "We're not the only ones who've been hurt."
Rémi Zinck, the Green mayor of the 4th arrondissement, believes that the Pentes carnival "degenerated, leading to altercations and damage." He also "unambiguously condemns these acts and those who support them."

Netto Berthelot closes: Action takes its place
Due to "economic difficulties", the Netto store in Lyon Berthelot is forced to close its doors, the Netto communications team told Le Progrès .
Located at 322 Avenue Berthelot, across from Place du Bachut, the Netto store is being replaced by Action, the French brand's favorite. The Dutch firm already has locations in Lyon, Vaise, and Gerland.
Customers had rushed to take advantage of the store's last bargains to clear its inventory. On the morning of May 23, the day before its final closing, around thirty customers were already waiting calmly outside the entrance for the store to open. The date of this handover has not yet been announced.
The City of Lyon has invested €144 million to renovate its cultural facilities. This initiative aims to modernize and preserve iconic sites such as Les Subsistances.
Construction will begin in 2026 and will be one of the largest projects in the country, with a budget of over €6 million dedicated to building insulation and modernization. The modernization program is worth €6.3 million, with €1.2 million in state aid. The auditorium also benefited from two operations totaling nearly €1.6 million (including €650,000 from the state).
The Marceline Desbordes-Valmore media library (Lyon 9th arrondissement ) will undergo an interior redesign and thermal renovation (€3.4 million co-financed by the City and the State).

In Old Lyon, the development of the Maréchal-Juin bridge is putting motorists on edge
A new system implemented by the Lyon Metropolitan Area now blocks vehicle access to the upper part of the Quai Romain-Rolland, near the Maréchal-Juin bridge (Lyon 5th arrondissement ). This change is causing a major problem for some users of the Saint-Jean car park (900 spaces), who find themselves trapped.
Their only option for getting out is to take a long detour, requiring them to cross the Saône River twice. To avoid this time-consuming "loop," some drivers illegally cross the white line.
"I'm outraged, we're taking a 25-minute detour via the Quai Saint-Antoine." Another, a resident of Vaise, remarks: "For people who travel during office hours, it's infuriating. If there are a lot of people, it's guaranteed chaos. And then it makes people drive more, so in terms of pollution..."
