Tensions among the Young Republicans over the method of appointing their leaders

A year after the crisis that rocked Les Républicains (LR) following the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9, 2024, the chapter is not yet completely closed for the right-wing party. The election of Bruno Retailleau as president of LR on May 18 filled a position that had remained vacant since the exclusion of Eric Ciotti, following his alliance with the National Rally. But the question of the presidency of the Young Republicans, the party's youth movement, could revive divisions.
In June 2024, the president of the Young LR, Guilhem Carayon, was one of the few LR executives to follow Eric Ciotti. Excluded from the party by the political bureau, the two men officially continued to hold their positions until their departure from LR in September 2024. At the top of the party, the interim was ensured by a collegiate leadership, before Bruno Retailleau's large victory over Laurent Wauquiez (74.3% of the vote) in a vote open to members. Among the Young LR, the members of the national bureau, elected in 2023 on Guilhem Carayon's list, continue to ensure the interim.
