The popularity ratings of Emmanuel Macron and François Bayrou are plummeting, particularly among Renaissance-MoDem-Horizons supporters.

The popularity ratings of Emmanuel Macron and François Bayrou are plummeting, particularly among Renaissance-MoDem-Horizons supporters.

A real tumble... The popularity ratings of Emmanuel Macron and François Bayrou both fell sharply in June, by 5 points compared to May for the former and by 3 points for the latter , according to an Ipsos-Cesi poll for La Tribune Dimanche published on Saturday.

The president's approval rating, at 21%, is close to its lowest point (20%) reached in the winter of 2018, at the time of the Yellow Vest crisis. François Bayrou, who has been at Matignon for six months, now only has 17% approval ratings.

For both, the drop in popularity is greatest among Renaissance-MoDem-Horizons supporters.

"Recent news has fueled a lot of anger towards the public authorities," commented Brice Teinturier, deputy CEO of Ipsos, to La Tribune Dimanche. Recent national news has included, for example , the death of a school monitor stabbed by a student, and violence on the sidelines of PSG's Champions League victory.

The level of delinquency is now listed second among the main concerns of the French, behind purchasing power , according to this monthly barometer.

"The divide we see on crime is astonishing: for the left, the issue is practically non-existent, while it is one of the main issues for the right and the far right," added Mr. Teinturier.

"The RN electorate is internalizing the fact that Bardella could be its candidate in 2027"

Within the government, LR Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau (36%) and Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin (34%) remain the most popular with the French . Culture Minister Rachida Dati (13%) recorded a drop of several points, causing her to fall to fifth place in the ranking of ministers.

The barometer of potential successors to Emmanuel Macron places RN Jordan Bardella (35%) and Marine Le Pen (33%) in the lead, followed by Bruno Retailleau (29%).

"The RN electorate is internalizing the fact that Bardella could be its candidate in 2027," according to Brice Teinturier, while Ms. Le Pen's candidacy is on hold following a sentence of ineligibility.

The survey was conducted online between June 11 and 13 among a sample of 1,003 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, using the quota method.
