Vote of confidence: the RN dreams of dissolution

The National Rally is changing tack. A habit for the far-right party, which constantly modifies its programs and strategies according to its electoral interests. This is further evidenced by the liberal plea of Jordan Bardella , on Thursday, August 28, at the Medef summer universities, castigating "hypertaxation" and advocating more "support" for businesses, in contradiction with Marine Le Pen's speech during her presidential campaigns.
In recent days, the RN has also suddenly changed its strategy in its attitude towards the government. Eager to appear as the "party of order against chaos," the far right had put itself in the position of supporting without participating in the executive, which François Bayrou has shattered. "Politically, it is unthinkable to abstain," admits MP Mathias Renault in Le Figaro regarding the confidence vote planned for September 8 .
While it intended to weigh in on the budget, ready not to censor if it obtained "victories," the National Rally has had to change its strategy. Now, it is even pushing for a dissolution, which it seemed to fear a few weeks ago. "It is obvious that in the current situation, I see no other solution than to turn to the French people. We cannot last two years like this. It is not possible," declared Jordan Bardella, who dreams of becoming prime minister again, on Saturday.
The RN president even hastily convened a "campaign office" for the legislative elections on Monday afternoon, the day before the meeting between his leaders and François Bayrou at Matignon. Boosted by the polls in his favor, which place the far right in the lead and predict a weakening of the Republican front at this stage, the Le Pen party is focusing all its communication on "the need for a return to the polls."
A rhetoric that also allows them to justify their lack of support for the social movement of September 10 , perceived as "appropriated by the extreme left." Questioned about this decision on Saturday on BFM TV, Jordan Bardella dismissed it: "When we want to express our anger, we use the most democratic means possible: we vote."
The National Rally hopes to hold this election as early as the fall, provided it is not an early presidential election. Several senior members have spoken out in recent days against the impeachment of Emmanuel Macron. It must be said that such a vote would take place without their candidate, as Marine Le Pen was sentenced to five years of ineligibility with provisional execution last March, ahead of an appeal scheduled for spring 2026.
However, the person concerned announced that in the event of legislative elections – and even more so in the event of a presidential election – she would still attempt to run, by appealing to the Constitutional Council. In other words, doing everything possible to avoid complying with a court decision. A strange "party of order."
It's step by step, argument against argument, that we must fight the extreme right. And that's what we do every day in L'Humanité.
In the face of relentless attacks from racists and hatemongers: support us! Together, let's make another voice heard in this increasingly nauseating public debate. I want to know more.
