Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung's new foldable brand marks a revolution

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung's new foldable brand marks a revolution

Samsung has just unveiled its new Galaxy Z Fold 7 with two major focuses: thinness and performance.

Samsung continues to develop its two flagship foldable smartphones each year: the Galaxy Z Flip (clamshell format) and the Galaxy Z Fold (book format). The company has just officially unveiled its Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, and this new generation finally marks a design revival.

The first thing that stands out about the new Z Fold 7 is its design. After years of criticism over the thickness of its foldable smartphone, Samsung has significantly slimmed down the Z Fold 7 to create a phone that has all the dimensions of a conventional mobile phone (with the added bonus of an opening).

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 now measures just 8.9mm when closed and 4.2mm when open. This represents a change of nearly 26% in thickness compared to its predecessor, and the phone is now only slightly thicker than its USB-C port.

Weight is also one of the Z Fold 7's strengths, as the smartphone has lost 19g compared to last year and now weighs only 215g. This is due in part to the presence of a new hinge that is lighter, but also more durable.

On the screen side, the Z Fold 7's interior has grown to 8 inches (compared to 7.6 for the Z Fold 6). The exterior screen follows the same trend, going from 6.2 inches to 6.5 inches. The internal fold has also been improved and is even less noticeable than on the previous generation. In terms of brightness, the interior screen is capable of going up to 2600 nits.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 also gets an upgrade for its camera, with the main sensor being upgraded to the 200MP sensor already found on the S25 Ultra and Edge. The selfie camera also gets a new 10MP sensor, while the ultra-wide-angle lens now includes a macro mode for capturing the smallest details.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will certainly be a very powerful smartphone given its processor: a Snapdragon 8 Elite fully configured for a Galaxy. This chip will be able to count on 12 or 16 GB of RAM depending on your configuration.

Finally, just because it's thin doesn't mean the Z Fold 7 doesn't benefit from careful consideration of battery life. The foldable has a 4400 mAh battery, and Samsung announces that the battery life is 24 hours for video playback (1 hour more than the previous generation). Charging remains at 25W wired and 10W wireless.

A rising price for an approaching release date

These improvements to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 unfortunately force Samsung to increase the price of the smartphone by 100 euros compared to the previous version. The foldable phone will be offered in the following three versions:

  • 2099 euros for the 256 / 12 GB version
  • 2219 euros for the 512 / 12 GB version
  • 2519 euros for the 1TB / 16GB version

Three colors will be available at official retailers: Midnight Blue, Absolute Black, and Gray. A fourth color, Sea Green, will also be available exclusively on Samsung's official website.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be available from July 25, 2025, with pre-orders starting July 9. Samsung is offering up to €150 off if you opt for a version with additional storage.
