A page is turning. After five years at the helm of Renault, Luca de Meo will step down as CEO of the group on July 15, the carmaker announced in a press release published Sunday, June 15. The Italian took over as CEO of the diamond-shaped brand in 2020, shortly after the crisis caused by the " Carlos Ghosn affair," the company's former CEO .

Luca de Meo has notably undertaken the acceleration of the development of Renault electric cars , for example by reissuing the Renault 4 and 5 models. This "Renaulution", the name of his plan to relaunch the diamond brand, has rather borne fruit, since this new range of cars and the reduction in costs have allowed the manufacturer to achieve record profitability in 2024 and to resist in a slowing automotive sector.

"For five years, Luca de Meo has worked to put Renault Group back where it belongs. Under his leadership, our company has found a healthy base, it now has a magnificent range of products and has returned to growth," said Jean-Dominique Senard, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Renault, in the press release.

The 58-year-old now plans to "take on new challenges outside the automotive sector," the company continued. Luca de Meo began his career at Renault and also moved on to manage Fiat, where he successfully relaunched the small 500, before revitalizing Seat for the Volkswagen group.

This announcement comes in the wake of a wave of departures within the alliance with Nissan, where Renault holds a 35% stake and 15% of the voting rights. In mid-April, Jean-Dominique Senard also announced his withdrawal.
