Botafogo-Seattle Sounders (2-1): John Textor's Brazilian club wins before facing PSG

The Brazilian club, led by the president of Olympique Lyonnais, dominated Seattle in its opening match of the Club World Cup on Sunday. It will face PSG on Thursday night.
By Le Parisien with AFPBrazilian side Botafogo beat the Seattle Sounders 2-1 on their home turf on Sunday in their first match of the Club World Cup, before taking on PSG on Thursday night in Los Angeles.
Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo took the lead in the 28th minute with Jair Cunha heading in a free kick from the right and Alex Telles' left foot. Igor Jesus made it 2-0, again with a header, winning his aerial duel with defender Keehee Kim from a cross from full-back Vitinho.
Seattle showed more initiative in the second half and was rewarded with a goal from a Cristian Roldan header deflected by Igor Jesus after a Paul Rothrock cross (75th). The Sounders had several chances to equalize late in the game, but to no avail, and will regret their clumsiness (23 shots to 12).
With their victory, Botafogo moved into second place in Group B with three points, the same as PSG, who thrashed Atlético Madrid 4-0 earlier in the day. The Brazilians will face the European champions at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, a suburb of Los Angeles, on Thursday night, a few hours after Atlético hosted the Sounders in Seattle.
