Cléber Xavier, former assistant to Tite, appointed coach of Neymar's Santos

With Betano struggling in the Serie A standings after six matches, Santos announced on Tuesday that they have handed the reins to Cléber Xavier. Neymar's club, 19th in the league with four points, is not making any headway and is counting on the 61-year-old coach to bounce back.

Assistant to former Brazilian coach Tite (2016 to 2022) and throughout his career (since 2001), he is preparing to experience his first experience as number 1. While Cesar Sampaio (47 caps between 1990 and 2000 with the Seleçao), has been acting as interim coach since the ousting of Portuguese Pedro Caixinha, the former midfielder will assist Xavier. The latter has signed a contract until December 31, 2025.
