Format, teams, groups, calendar: everything you need to know about the Club World Cup

This new FIFA competition runs from June 15 to July 13 and will see clubs from every continent compete. Paris Saint-Germain is the only French representative to have qualified through its European ranking in the last four seasons .

The competition takes place over the course of a month in several stadiums and cities across the United States. Thirty-two teams from each continent are represented, including 12 from Europe. They will first be separated into a group stage consisting of eight groups of four teams: each team plays the other teams in its group once.

The top two finishers in the group qualify for the round of 16, while the others are eliminated. The remainder of the competition consists of knockout matches in the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. Note that there is no third-place match, which is the only difference between the format and a World Cup of Nations.

In the group stages, a group is composed of four teams. In total, there are eight groups.
