Live | Roland-Garros 2025: Novak Djokovic improves his entry, Elsa Jacquemot qualifies, Alexandre Müller and Varvara Gracheva eliminated in the first round

The first round of the French Open concludes Tuesday, with the debut of three-time tournament winner Novak Djokovic and last year's finalist Alexander Zverev. The rest of the French contingent will also be making their debuts, including Varvara Gracheva, Alexandre Müller, Corentin Moutet, and Gaël Monfils.

Live hosted by Valentin Baudry

Ask your question to the editorial staff:

We used to reach the quarter-finals of RG... Tennis moves fast, very fast.

"I feel good and confident after my title in Geneva. It's a wonderful anniversary; I was looking for this 100th title. It's a privilege for me; I love tennis, being able to come to France and play.

Luck is there every day, I know it exists. I think my game was better at the start of this tournament. Today I was good, I can do even better, but it was solid. I know the process of my game, and everything I need to do to play better."

The electric French player begins his tournament against a compatriot, on the Simonne-Mathieu court that he loves so much. The two French players warm up, and succeed Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian having lost in the first round to the Polish Magdalena Frech (seeded number 25), in two sets: 6-6 [7-4], 6-0.

We're rotating the women's and men's draws throughout the day, depending on the matches currently underway. Until now, we've been covering the matches of Alexandre Müller and Novak Djokovic, which explains the emphasis on the men's draw.

Under rainy spells, on a roaring number 14 court, the 28-year-old Frenchman conceded defeat to the young Czech player after four vigorously contested sets: 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

It was a thunderous "tut-tut" for the Tricolore, who gave their all against the number 19 seed, saving a handful of match points!

The Serbian allowed himself to copy and paste during the three sets played against the American: 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. A successful start for the three-time Roland-Garros winner, who will face a... Frenchman in the second round, to be determined between Corentin Moutet and Clément Tabur.

We got out the snorkel and flippers, to be honest. Especially after saving three match points in the fourth set. Now the Frenchman is still trailing Jakub Mensik (5-3), but more determined than ever to fight!

To shine at #JSUL, you had to find the most offbeat caption for this superb photo of Daniil Medvedev. And you did it, brilliantly too: bravo!

Well, especially in bad ways, as this fourth round seems to be leaning in favor of Jakub Mensik, who is having fun with the French public, and playing on the Frenchman's weaknesses.

The Czech leads the fourth set: 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 5-2.

The first round of the French Open tennis championships concludes this Tuesday. The final seeded teams had no problems: Alex de Minaur, Alexander Zverev, Mirra Andreeva, and Coco Gauff dispatched their respective opponents to advance to the second round at the Porte d'Auteuil without much effort.

Only Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov failed to defend his qualification against American qualifier Ethan Quinn, who was forced to retire from the lead after suffering a new thigh injury. Russian Daniil Medvedev lost his intense duel against Britain's Cameron Norrie in five sets.

For the French team, Varvara Gracheva was soundly beaten by American Sofia Kenin (3-6, 1-6), despite carrying France's slim hopes in the women's draw. Chloé Paquet conceded defeat in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 5-7) against Czech Tereza Valentova. A pleasant surprise, however, was Elsa Jacquemot, who eliminated Greece's Maria Sakkari, the 2021 tournament semi-finalist, in two sets (6-3, 7-6). She joins Léolia Jeanjean, the only local player to have reached the next round so far.

The rest of the day is enlivened by the debut of Novak Djokovic, the clash between the Frenchman Alexandre Müller and the Czech Jakub Mensik, seeded number 19 (we are currently in the 4th set). A first Franco-French duel has begun between Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Benjamin Bonzi (1 set each), while Corentin Moutet and Clément Tabur must do battle on the Simonne Mathieu court. Finally, Gaël Monfils ( 42nd ) will put on the show during the evening session, against the Bolivian Hugo Dellien ( 90th ).

Elsa Jacquemot is 1.76 m tall, which is roughly three times her racket. This photo, from a less deceptive angle, proves it!

Jakub Mensik still leads 4-2 in this electric fourth set, but the Frenchman, carried by the crowd, managed to finish his serve.

Let him hear you....! Next!

"It's not over yet," a spectator yelled in Alexandre Müller's face. But the Frenchman's eyes—and his morale—were in his socks, two games away from crashing out. Despite the fans cheering, the Czech continued to extend his long stretches to get every ball back.

Valentin Moinard

The 138th player in the world, invited to the tournament, is through to the second round of Roland-Garros, after defeating the Greek Maria Sakkari in two closely contested sets: 6-3, 7-6 [7-4]! Huge!

The Lyon player thus becomes the second French player to qualify for the second round, after Léolia Jeanjean's victory yesterday.

The 24-year-old Frenchman, who defeated his compatriot Ugo Blanchet the day before, was forced to withdraw due to injury, following tests carried out today, revealing abdominal injuries. Hugo Gaston, who headlined tomorrow's evening session against American Ben Shelton, left the Porte d'Auteuil without being able to defend his chances...

Hope you enjoy the pasta.

To fill the gap caused by the Parisian downpour, we suggest you let off some steam – without any malice towards the distorted face of a Medvedev in full action – with this carefully selected photo.

The best proposals will be celebrated as they should be in this live, so: to your keyboards, and JSULez!

The Frenchman fought hard to try to take on the Czech, who ultimately proved very solid in the rain. But neither the blazing No. 14 court nor the Frenchman's polished play were enough to change the situation. Jakub Mensik now leads two sets to one: 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.

And as a bonus, there is a remarkable bit of banter, to the whistles of the Parisian spectators.

Well spotted, Gaga! According to a press release from Roland-Garros, Hugo Gaston is suffering from "abdominal pain."
