Marc Marquez claims sixth consecutive victory at the Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix
Who can stop Marc Marquez? The Spanish rider (Ducati), the firm leader of the MotoGP world championship, won his sixth consecutive Grand Prix on Sunday, August 17, in Austria, at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, the venue for the thirteenth round of the season – out of 22.
The six-time world champion in the category beat his young compatriot Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati-Gresini), who finished 2nd and achieved his best MotoGP ranking in his first season in the elite. Starting from pole position, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) ultimately finished 3rd , after spending more than half the race in the lead with Marc Marquez in his wheel.
The other official Ducati, that of double 2022-2023 world champion Francesco Bagnaia, finished a distant 8th place, after having been 3rd for a long time. As for the first Frenchman on the grid, Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR), he crossed the finish line 12th . His compatriot, the 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), finished 15th .
Defending champion Jorge Martin, for his part, was forced to withdraw after a crash. As a precaution, the Spaniard was taken to the circuit's medical center.
In the riders' championship, Marc Marquez now has a 142-point lead over his runner-up, his younger brother, Alex, who finished 10th in the Austrian GP with his Ducati-Gresini. The gap rises to 197 points with Francesco Bagnaia, currently in 3rd place .
