It didn't take long to see the RCT recruits line up in an official match. From the first day in Montpellier, Pierre Mignoni chose to field two new Toulon players in his starting XV. Two years after his last Top 14 match in the colors of the MHR and well recovered from his knee injury, Zach Mercer will start at center of the Toulon third line, supported by his compatriot Lewis Ludlam and the young Joé Quere-Karaba. Already a starter in the two friendlies during the offseason, Joé Quere-Karaba continues his progression and plays a third match as a starter in the third line wing position.
More than convincing last week against Clermont in a friendly in Issoire, "Nacho" Brex will start the match wearing the number 13. He will once again be partnered by the very promising Oliver Cowie.
For this official return, Pierre Mignoni has also made some strong choices. At fullback, Marius Domon was preferred to Melvyn Jaminet, who is absent from the squad. As last season, in the absence of Charles Olivon (recovering from his knee injury), English giant David Ribbans will wear the RCT captain's armband.
In a bench composed of six forwards and two three-quarters, three other recruits will make their debut in the Toulon jersey: the versatile Mathis Ferté, the promising Patrick Tuifua and the Georgian prop Nikoloz Narmania.
