NBA: Mike Brown on track to become the next New York Knicks coach

NBA: Mike Brown on track to become the next New York Knicks coach

The 55-year-old technician will succeed Tom Thibodeau, who was fired after the New Yorkers' defeat against Indiana in the conference final (4-2).

The New York Knicks have reportedly agreed to terms with two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown as the franchise's new head coach, according to ESPN. The 55-year-old has been a free agent since being fired by the Sacramento Kings last December after more than two seasons. He previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-2010) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2011-2012) and has a record of 454 wins and 304 losses.

Brown would replace Tom Thibodeau , who was fired a month ago after leading the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. The franchise reportedly conducted a second interview with Brown on Tuesday and also considered former Charlotte Hornets coach James Borrego and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori.

Previously, the Knicks had previously attempted to sign Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets, without success. They also attempted to sign former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and Dawn Staley, who won three NCAA titles.

Brown won four NBA titles as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs (2003) and Golden State Warriors (2017, 2018, and 2022). He led the Cavaliers to the 2006-07 NBA Finals, where they were swept by the Spurs.
