Tennis, Engie Open du Périgord: Children were able to learn tennis and padel
For Children's Day this Wednesday, June 25, the CAP tennis padel had pulled out all the stops with tennis activities and, new this year, an introduction to padel.
To end the season in style, what better than small workshops in the middle of an international women's tournament? At the CAP tennis padel club, Pascal Vierge, the club's sports director, and other instructors welcomed around thirty licensed children from Périgueux, as well as from the "C'est d'la balle" and "Fête le mur" associations. The program included mainly tennis workshops. Adrien, Louis, and other young CAP coaches taught the children how to hit balls with a racket, how to position themselves on a court, and for those who already play at a club, how to improve and play with their friends. "It's a bit like our school party," smiles Pascal Vierge.
Like every year, budding young tennis players were also able to watch the matches of the international players at the Engie Open. Perhaps to give some of the little girls, who turned out in large numbers for this so-called children's day at CAP Tennis, some ideas.
A padel school that works rather wellAbove all, this year the club has set up an introductory padel program, a sport that has been very popular in recent years. To oversee everything is Leiza Gass, a licensed player and member of the board and the padel committee. "We opened a padel school that works very well and we set up new slots of two 1.5-hour sessions (improvement center). It's open to ages 5 to 16," she explains. The idea is to get more involved in padel. The club would also like to set up youth tournaments.
This gave the children the chance to try their hand at this sport, which is more accessible and fun than tennis. "If it might encourage some to join the club, we offer multi-racket licenses, where they can play both tennis and padel," concludes Leiza Gass.
The least we can say is that, despite the heat, the children enjoyed the workshops and finished with a well-deserved snack.
