The same scene repeats itself every other day on the courts of western Paris. Sometimes less so. On Tuesday, Tallon Griekspoor was unable to fully honor his revenge from last year against Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. The Dutchman was forced to surrender midway through the second set. His retirement further increases the total number of forfeits over the fortnight.

The French were particularly unlucky. Worn out from the start by a grueling five-set all-French duel, Hugo Gaston was ultimately forced to withdraw from the match. Two days later, Ugo Humbert withdrew after slipping, suffering a right thigh injury. The following day,
