Among the five French players entered in the ATP 500 in Dubai, only one was on the courts this Monday. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, back after his withdrawals in Matrseille and Rotterdam, secured his status against the Chinese Zhang Zhizhen 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) against whom he had lost in Cincinnati last August. With 13 aces under his belt, the 30th player in the ATP has quietly got back on track after 20 days without playing. In the next round, he could face the number 1 seed Daniil Medvedev or the German Jan-Lennard Struff.

Having struggled since the start of the season, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas has finally resumed his march forward. Having dropped out of the Top 10, he managed to tame Italian Lorenzo Sonego in two sets 7-6(4), 6-3. In the second round, he will meet Russian Karen Khachanov, who defeated Briton Dan Evans, 6-1, 6-3.
