"As founder and trustee of the America's Cup, we fully support the decision to modernize the world's oldest sporting trophy," said Jay Cross, commodore of the New York Yacht Club (NYYC).

In 1851, the NYYC was the first winner of the event, so named because its schooner, America , had beaten fifteen yachts representing the British Royal Yacht Squadron in a race around the Isle of Wight (United Kingdom) on the sidelines of the London World's Fair.

Registration for the 38th edition will be open from August 19, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Each team applying will have to pay an entry fee of 7 million euros.
