The Beyou-Lagravière duo are the new leaders in the IMOCA in the Transat Café L'Or

Sailing at over 25 knots in the downwind wind off Cape Finisterre (northwest of the Iberian Peninsula), Jérémie Beyou and Morgan Lagravière took the lead in the IMOCA race this Tuesday. At the 6 p.m. standings, they were ahead of Macif of Sam Goodchild-Loïs Berrehar (24 miles) and Allagrande Mapei of Ambrogio Beccaria-Thomas Ruyant (44 miles).
The Vendée Globe monohulls are trying to best negotiate the passage of a low-pressure system off the coast of Portugal in order to descend as quickly as possible towards the Canary Islands. "We're going to be in a lot of breeze, reaching with gusts of 35 knots and lots of sail changes ," Beyou said. "It's going to be complicated until we reach the Canary Islands, we're going to try to stay calm. Morale is good and things are going really well on board."
In the Ultim class, Tom Laperche and Franck Cammas (SVR-Lazartigue) continued to set the pace for their pursuers on a challenging, upwind descent towards the Canaries. At 6 p.m., they were 51 miles ahead of Sodebo of Thomas Coville and Benjamin Schwartz and Actual Ultim 4 of Anthony Marchand and Julien Villion by 56 miles.
No changes in Ocean Fifty where the tandem Pierre Quiroga-Gaston Morvan (Wewise) was still ahead of Emmanuel Le Roch-Basile Bourgnon (Edenred) and Thibaut Vauchel-Camus-Damien Seguin (Solidaires en Peloton). Still led by the trio Corentin Douguet-Axel Tréhin (Donate on SNSM.org), Achille Nebout-Gildas Mahé (Amarris) and Guillaume Pirouelle-Cédric Château (Seafrigo-Sogestran), the Class40 fleet is expected to start Wednesday in La Coruña where it will make a stopover to avoid the severe weather.
