The finalists will share nearly 7 million in prize money.

The Tokyo World Athletics Championships, which began this Saturday morning with the two 35km walk events, will have a total prize fund of 6.773 million francs (8.498 million dollars), according to a list published by World Athletics .
Only the finalists in each of the 49 events (147 medals) will be entitled to a performance bonus. The three athletes who reach the podium will obviously be, by far, the best paid.
The world champion will be awarded 55,792 francs ($70,000). The silver medal will bring in half that amount, or 27,896 francs, and the bronze medal 17,534 francs.

A special bonus of $100,000 (79,704 francs) will be awarded to any athlete who breaks a world record. A world title with a record will thus earn the athlete a total of 135,496 francs.
Finally, it should be noted that the relays will have collective prizes to be shared among the athletes. A gold medal in the relay will bring in 63,760 francs ($80,000).
