Tour de France 2025: between the dike and the green algae, the choice of images

These were the two beaches of this seventh stage: the Pléneuf-Val-André sea wall and the green algae coast, about which France Télévisions did not mention a word. Upon arrival in Mûr-de-Bretagne, in Côtes-d'Armor, Pogacar distributed his blessings.

The call of the open sea at the end of the road. Then, a bend. And the open sea turned into a seaside stroll in the sea spray. The sea wall opened its promenade to the five escapees who set off shortly after Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine): Alex Baudin (EF Education - EasyPost), Ewen Costiou (Arkea B & B Hotels), Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), Marco Haller (Tudor), and Ivan Garcia Cortina (Movistar), riders who pushed hard all day on Friday, July 11, held on by the peloton.

On the seawall of Pléneuf-Val-André (Côtes-d'Armor): an iodized indolence, large pink sandstone mansions or schist villas, spectators in bow windows or on white-painted wooden balconies. The memory man of Pléneuf, for his part, has remained with his nose in his large red leather binders, nourished by old and browned photographs. He takes on the features of an old cabin boy. Michel Grimaud sailed to Newfoundland, his only infidelity to Pléneuf. Here, he trawled the sandpits and fished for sea urchins and scallops in the small port nearby, Dahouët. He has black eyes crested with bushy eyebrows, a low voice, and the weary flow of his 87 years. Home for him, it's the seawall. When his memory returns at high tide, he speaks of another century, of plots sold by the commune to a "Suez Canal engineer" and of "Egyptian ministers" .

Michel Grimaud collected postcards, scoured departmental archives, the Lorient East India Company fund, etc.
