Two upcoming events for the Vélo club nansais

Two upcoming events for the Vélo club nansais

On Sunday, May 18, the Vélo club nansais, chaired by Pierre Poujol, will host the 4th edition of the Women's Cycling Festival. This is an opportunity for all women in Nans and residents of surrounding communities to discover the sport for free on one of the three mountain bike trails or the road course. Bikes will be available for rental upon registration.

On May 30th and 31st, a completely different event will be on the agenda: the final of the national youth competitions. This will be held for the first time in the South region. The local club, the first school in France in the 2024 French Cycling Schools Challenge, was naturally chosen to host the event.

240 participants at the start

Thus, 240 young people selected at the departmental and regional level, accompanied by around a hundred educators, judges, and federation officials, will take over the local campsite and elementary school, the starting point for each event. On Saturday, a third will compete in the national road safety competition, which qualifies for the European level, including Noémie Gailhard from Nans. Four will be selected at the end of the events. The other two-thirds will be divided equally between the National Road Critérium and the Mountain Bike Critérium, over the entire weekend. For the latter, several club members have been selected: Timotéo Millot, Charlie Dupouey, Noa Fourrier, Mathilde Michel, Rodrigue Bilbault, and Lola Milon, making seven Nansais out of 33 selected at the regional level for all of these competitions.

This event, organized by the French Cycling Tourism Federation, will take place in the presence of its president, Lydie Chenot, and the national technical director, Isabelle Gautheron, since it benefits from the support of the Var departmental council, the regional council of the South region, the municipality and the Provence Verte agglomeration.

Course of the tests

After a walk around the hill the day before, the educational test will be divided into two parts: games and a multiple-choice quiz for the theory, and a handling test on a road course for the practice. For the Criteriums, the terrain will be different but the tests similar. There will be a general knowledge multiple-choice quiz, a mechanical repair test, a rally raid, an orienteering race, and a handling test.

For these events, they may be required to travel through Nans-les-Pins, Rougiers, Saint-Maximin, Tourves, Mazaugues, and Plan-d'Aups. A celebration will conclude this sporting weekend.
