World Swimming Championships: Maxime Grousset becomes world champion in the 100m butterfly

Frenchman Maxime Grousset became the 100m butterfly world champion on Saturday, August 2, with a time of 49.62 seconds. This marks his second title of the week at the Singapore World Swimming Championships, following his title in the 50m butterfly.

He won in 49.62 seconds, the third-fastest time in history over the distance. He finished ahead of Switzerland's Noé Ponti (49.83 seconds) and Canada's Ilya Kharun (50.07 seconds).

The fastest swimmer in his semi-final, the 26-year-old Caledonian was still beaten in time by the Swiss Noè Ponti (50 sec 18) and the Canadian Josh Liendo (50 sec 24) in the best of two series. "Unfortunately, there are some small details that aren't great, but apart from that, frankly, it went really well," he said.

The other Frenchman in the semi-final, Clément Secchi, took 13th place (51 sec 23) and will therefore not be in the final.
