The English dealer, renowned for having been responsible for selling Bernie Ecclestone's Formula 1 collection, has been entrusted with the sale of Mansour Ojjeh's 20 McLarens. Kathy Ojjeh decided to part with her late husband's Woking GT collection in June 2021. Mansour Ojjeh was no ordinary man in the automotive world. The owner of Luxembourg-based TAG and a long-time McLaren shareholder, he played a key role in the team's success, financing the TAG Porsche engine that helped it win two consecutive Constructors' titles and Niki Lauda win his third World Championship in 1984. Alain Prost then won his first title the following year and then retained his title in 1986. Under his leadership, the team won seven Constructors' Championships and ten Drivers' Championships. Meanwhile, Mansour Ojjeh helped pioneer the McLaren F1 in the early 1990s, along with Gordon Murray and Ron Dennis. A keen sports car enthusiast, the French-Saudi businessman played an equally important role in the launch of McLaren Automotive in the 2000s.
Mansour Ojjeh's McLaren collection is unique. The centerpiece is, of course, the 1995 F1 car. It was the last chassis produced by McLaren. In fact, Mansour Ojjeh always requested the last chassis produced for each model. Driving the F1 car, Mansour Ojjeh only covered 1,810 km. It is the only car in the collection, along with the P1 GTR, to have been driven. All other McLarens in the collection remain unused. The Elva was delivered after the enthusiast's death. As a tribute to him, McLaren replaced the manufacturer's badges on the front and rear with Mansour's emblem.
The collection also includes a host of iconic Woking GTs, including the Speedtail, P1, Senna and Sabre – the latter being the last of 16 ever produced – as well as special and limited edition Longtail and Le Mans models.
Mansour Ojjeh's collection is the most significant collection of McLaren road cars ever assembled. Tom Hartley says he hopes "it will be acquired by a single buyer, just as the Ecclestone Grand Prix collection was sold earlier this year."
