Department Q fans must watch 'alluring' new wartime detective drama

Department Q fans are urged that they must watch an 'alluring' new wartime detective drama, streaming now.
The Breslau Murders was just added to Disney+'s extensive library from today (12th September). A Polish production, the eight-part series is billed as the binge-worthy crime drama to keep fans of the genre occupied for the weekend.
It is set in Breslau, the historical German name for Wrocław in Poland, in the year 1936 with the eleventh Olympic Games fast approaching.
The eyes of the entire world are turned towards the capital of the Third Reich. Meanwhile, in the city, a brutal murder takes place at a hotel. Police commissioner Franz Podolsky (played by Tomasz Schuchardt) finds himself working overtime to solve the killing of an athlete, which may ruin the whole propaganda campaign and disrupt the great sports event.

According to the synopsis: "The only one who can close the investigation in time is the police commissioner of Polish origin Podolsky, who despises the Third Reich but feels duty-bound to bring the killer to justice.
"Known for his controversial but effective methods, Podolsky finds himself face to face with the emerging evil. While facing his own demons, he begins a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the murderer, threatening both his career and personal life."
Early previews from some outlets report the series is set to offer a gritty period drama meets thrilling murder mystery. Which means it should be ideal for fans of Netflix hit Department Q, or even BBC hits Shetland and Murder in Paradise.
From what has been shown in the trailer of the lead character, they seem to share some traits from the investigators in those shows too. As Good Housekeeping says: " The Breslau Murders is the polished period crime drama with an alluring detective."
All eight episodes are available at once, with users able to binge to their heart's content. This marks the streamer's first original series produced out of central or eastern Europe.

While the series isn't based on a true story, it has strong inspiration from key moments in history. In the 1930s, the city now known as Wrocław was under German control and referred to as Breslau.
The city was originally Polish, but became Germanised from the 13th century onwards. The ‘30s saw the rise of the Nazi regime, and after Hitler came to power in 1933, Breslau underwent extreme Nazification.
It became one of the strongest support bases of the Nazi Party in Europe, and Jewish residents were persecuted. Immediately after World War II in 1945, Wrocław became part of Poland again, with its German population expelled and its name reverted to the Polish form. The city was repopulated with Poles, many from areas annexed by the Soviet Union.
