Paul Flynn Identifies Subtle David Clifford Moment That Could Be Key For Kerry

Kerry bounced back from their shock defeat against Meath in an impressive fashion yesterday, easily overcoming Cavan in their All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final meeting at Fitzgerald Stadium.
This was a game that Kerry were expected to win, with a statement performance needed on the back of their loss last weekend. While it was not perfect by any means, the display from talisman was particularly pleasing.
David Clifford was in spectacular form in Killarney, notching a personal tally of 3-7 en route to the victory. This goal was the standout moment on a sensational afternoon for the Fossa man.

Flynn Identifies David Clifford Moment That Could Be Key For KerryWhile David Clifford's scoring output will dominate the headlines in the aftermath of this game, it was a more subtle moment from the forward that could end up being important for Kerry further down the line.
The 26-year old very much led from the front, with his ferocious pressing a major factor in the win. His reaction to one particular turnover in the first half spoke volumes.
Speaking on The Saturday Game, Paul Flynn summed up why incidents such as this one could prove to be key for Kerry moving forward.
They need to take the pressure off David Clifford to a certain extent. Obviously they need him to kick and be their leading light up front, but it can't be all reliant on one man...
That for me was so important to them. It was the energy that they brought in the early stages...
My favourite clip is this one. David Clifford sets the trap. [Niall] Carolan goes for it and they turn him over. It's Sean O'Shea, it's [Paul] Geaney, and it's [David] Clifford.
Look at the energy that gives. That's like Clifford leading the way. We see clips about Michael Jordan and asking him to do more than scoring. When he does that, Kerry players get lifted.
It's a phenomenal impact that he can have with a turnover like that. Not only were these turnovers happening throughout the first 45 minutes, they all ended up in scores.
David Clifford certainly brings a lot more to the Kerry team than just his scoring ability, something that was plain to see in the win over Cavan.
If Kerry are to make their way to an All-Ireland final over the coming weeks, he will play a big part both on and off the ball.
